As I wrote yesterday, I am starting on a new project today. I haven't had a great start. First I've had problems with my internet at home, and now when I am at the countryside instead, the startup phase doesn't go as smoothly as it could. When I plan a new painting, first I have a theme and a story I want to tell and an idea more or less of how I want the painting to look like. Second step is to look for inspirational pictures. Then I have to make a lot of decisions, for example:
*Exactly which elements to include (faces? items? background?)
*The proportions and angles of all the elements and the placement in the painting
*Which colors and techniques to use
I use to make a lot of different "studies" where I test proportions and angles etc. (Sometimes it takes days to decide). When I've made up my mind I start sketching on the canvas.
Right now I am at the study and decision-making phase. The key is not-to-give-up!
