I've watched the free tutorials about Photoshop at Moderskeppet and I just wanted to say that I really recommend them. I don't have photoshop myself but I'm thinking about buying the license. Until now I've used free programs such as iPhoto and Inkscape when I've wanted to make some photo editing.
Anyways, some of the things you learn at the free tutorials are:
* How to make photos look "milky" which is very popular nowadays. You do that by increasing the intensity and lowering the contrast. Not that difficult :)
* How to edit a photo of an apartment for sale. Often the dark parts get so dark you cannot see the details in the apartment (in this case the black tile). There is a smart tool you can use to only lighten up the shadows and not the whole picture. See below!
*How to make a photo black and white. One way is to lower the saturation level to the minimum. The downside with this method is that the photo might look flat. Another way is by converting the photo to grey scale. All the colors from the original photo get an own grey tone. This might not work for a portrait though, because the skin consists of different dots of orange/yellow/red and when you convert it to grey the skin might look damaged.
