In Spain, the three wise men/kings come with the Christmas presents to the kids - not Santa Claus. To celebrate the arrival of the kings, they hold an event called Cabalgata in Madrid every year. The streets are filled with people and enthusiastic children and the whole procession starts with the guiding star. It is followed by cars, horses and performances of every kind and it ends with the kings reading a letter to the kids on a stage outside the old post house. Then there is fireworks of course. Como hacer feliz a alguien/ how to make someone happy <3 The whole event lasted for hours and it was freezing cold outside, but totally worth it. Firefighters of Madrid. They were throwing hard candy from all the cars, and it wasn't a pleasant experience at all, gosh how it hurt when they hit my head! Good thing they hit me and not the kids though, I played the part as a human shield haha :) We were so lucky to be in the VIP section closest to the stage. Madrid's Mayer, Ana Botella, was there (the woman in red watching the parade). This wagon looks like something out of a fairytale. Melchor, Balthasar and Gaspar (embarrassing but I don't know who is who). Now Christmas is definitely over and I've had such a great start of the new year. 2015 - you are welcome!

Since I won a drawing from the amazingly talented Eloy Morales, I wanted to do something to show my gratitude. It was this beautiful little girl who randomly picked a number amongst the comments of the IG post where he was giving away one of his studies, and that comment belonged to me. When I saw this picture of her when she had fallen asleep after the draw I immediately felt like I had to paint it. You know that feeling when your whole body tells you to do something? Well, that's how it was and I enjoyed painting it so much. The pose, the expression, the tenderness and the love...<3 So this was my gift to Eloy and this little girl. It is hard to make justice to someone when you paint them, but what I can say is that I painted it with passion and with a great dose of thankfulness. I'm not going to publish the original photo because it is not mine to show, so I'm sorry to say that you will never see if it is alike or not. I got to dedicate the painting to her and I did it in Swedish, so maybe one day she will learn the words and know what it says. Thank you little Ms. C and I wish you all the best in this big and crazy world!
"This town's a judgmental place And I'm unsure in any case It's not under my control They're taking aim for heart and soul" Like a still life cat in the window with a never-sleeping Velazquez roaring from outside. <3 Scroll to 2.15 min to go to the best part. I've been taking lots of inspiring pictures from the Christmas parade - Cabalgata - and this is the 1st out of 3 posts.
There is something special about Spanish horses; their elegance and their temperament, the curve of their neck and the way their muscles play when they dance. You know I'm a very simple girl, raised in the deep forests. I've learnt to enjoy the fresh air and the calmness and the nothingness in my town. I've come to peace there. In Madrid I was always going somewhere, and I had this constant restlessness creeping in my body. But going back this time, it also got me thinking that dinner with friends, a little champagne and "jiji jaja" (laughter) from time to time doesn't automatically mean you are a shallow person. The only thing is that I don't want to get stuck in it or let it take to much of my attention because I want to build something too. In ten years I want to feel proud of what I've accomplished, or at least proud of the fact that I put effort into what I've believed in. So my philosophy is to work hard and be disciplined on a day-to-day basis regarding work and painting. And then I'll take mini-pauses to charge my batteries, enjoy friends and make place for new adventures. By coincidence this afternoon became like an small reunion with people from Ibiza and we started to make plans for the summer. It will be a treat after half a year of hard work and we had such a blast last time that I can't wait to go back <3 (Ten con Ten, Madrid)
Thank you Konstagenten! <3
Visit their page and get inspired by their articles, members and artwork. I'm back from my Madrid trip and now I have access to my computer and can share things with you again. With some of the most iconic monuments in the background; the Metropolis/Rolex building and Cybele's fountain. After 1,5 years I've finally cut and colored my hair at my favorite hair salon (the curls are the work of Pedro at Aires). I've picked up the drawing I won (I'll show you later), I've spent quality time with friends and ex work colleagues, eaten tortilla every day, and now I feel empty and full of life at the same time. Long time since I let myself have emotions like this. I've also stayed up all night without going to bed which means I almost lost my flight and had to go straight to the airport this morning - I just passed by the house to pick up the suit case. It also means I'm really tired and will go straight to bed now..
I've painted this for someone in Madrid, and you'll understand why in a couple of days (that person doesn't know anything about it yet).
The reason why I even thought about painting this is because the motive was right up my alley. It was a real treat to paint, just like the small detail of curly dark hair! And how the clothes shift from white and blue to violet and complete darkness. Painting is like writing poetry to me, but with color instead of words <3 |
