Mandatory movie night tonight. We've been watching the third Star Wars movie, I didn't remember it was this good. Peeling off all that galactic mumbo jumbo, master Yoda has some very deep stuff to say. I'm sure they've looked at old religions when writing and creating his character. See the head line for one of the best quotes in the movie <3
The charity project Postales desde el Limbo has already started and if you are living in or visiting Zaragoza this weekend you can go and check it out. The money from the post cards goes to el Centro de Solidaridad de Zaragoza-Proyecto Hombre and their new project about women and alcohol. The exhibition will last until Monday and I hope it will be a success! Picture above from Europapress. (they've published an article about the exhibition too) More articles about Postales desde el Limbo: El Heraldo 20 Minutos Aragon Digital Below you can see where the artists come from, Sweden is marked with blue color - I'm so happy to be part of this <3 The picture comes from here.
In November last year after launching this site, I published a step-by-step oil painting post which you can find here (or by looking in the archives)!
As usual, I begun by drawing a grind and transferring the picture to the canvas. Then acrylics, and last by not least oil colors. If you are interested in seeing more pictures of the WIP (work-in-progress) follow the link above :) My contribution this week is this little bullfinch - it is an oil on oil paper. I haven't done any underpainting and I haven't blended the colors as much as I normally do, and that is why it isn't as realistic as my regular paintings. Anyone else who loves when birds sing? The host this week is Sara Woodrow :) Two days left until the challenge. Here comes some inspiration! They've played this song in an episode of Revenge. Great series by the way (even though it gives me chills) :)
I often admire other people's painting style. There are so many people with better technique than me, having extremely interesting ideas and motives which put you in awe. BUT, it is important to let it stay there; to appreciate what others do but not comparing myself with them, because they are not me and each and every one of us can contribute with something unique. For example, I love Turner's work and admire his landscape paintings. Another landscape painter I've fallen for is Norwegian Johan Christian Dahl (1788-1857). I went to the National Museum in Oslo some years ago and that is where I saw his paintings. The National Museum has a temporary exhibition going on right now until the 4th of January 2015 called “Dahl and Friedrich. Romantic Landscapes”, where you can see more of his work. Its about time I join the McCartney's meat free Mondays. So, I have a lentil soup cooking on the stove at the moment. Normally I add cod to it, but today I'm going to make it completely vegan. I would find it hard to avoid meat completely even though I'm not a big consumer of it. I have a lot of fish at home and sometimes I eat chicken, but when I go out or if someone invites me to dinner I have to say I love meat (jamón serrano, tacos, carpaccio..). I wish I was strong enough to become a vegetarian or even a vegan but I have to be realistic. Meat free Mondays on the other hand feels like a reasonable change and easy to integrate in my life as a first step! All pics are from here.
Yesterday I finally understood for real what the clichés like "seize the moment" really mean. The past is already gone and is only recreated in our minds when we decide to think about it, and the future is only an idea or a thought we have of how things might turn out in the future. By other words, there's no good reason to dwell the past or to worry too much about the future. The only thing we have is really a series of moments called "right now".
It is how you relate to the present that will determine if you can find inner piece and happiness or not. Happiness based on shopping, beauty, success etc, will make you satisfied temporarily, but it wont last. If you find a happy place in the present moment, no matter what you do, then you don't base you happiness on outer circumstances anymore. You do what is demanded of you in that very moment. Weather it is doing the dishes, listening to a friend talking or you holding a speech at a UN meeting. I haven't slept well for the last couple of nights and I've started to see a pattern. I have never been a superstitious person or believed in astrology and that sort of things (even though it fascinates me), but there is something about the full moon I cannot deny. It was my friend who made me aware of it while on vacation; I couldn't sleep one night and as soon as I started to relax a little I had nightmares instead. I haven't memorized the full moon calendar because I don't want my expectations to be the reason why I'm not sleeping well. (I've looked it up afterwards and full moon was the 6th of November) I believe in the natural laws, the movement of the ocean tides etc, so it wouldn't be that strange if the moon had an impact on us too right? It is just crazy how it affects my sleeping cycle as strongly as it does. I don't seem to be the only one though, here's an interesting article about it. Anyways, since I had a hard time sleeping, I listened to this amazing song <3 Hope to be able to sleep better tonight. I've been running for 50 min on the treadmill but I'm still restless so let's see how it goes! |
