Here comes another post about step-by-step painting so you can see all of the layering and work behind it!
First sketch:
Starting on the first layer, grateful that it has three distinct areas to work with.
Second and third layer of the middle part is applied, to make the bricks look rougher. Playing with the idea of hard (bricks) versus soft (children).
New layers of oil have been applied. You can see it very clearly if you look at the ear, or the smoothness of the background.
I actually did some corrections on the face to the left after this, but I can't seem to find the photo of it.
This painting is titled 'growing up'. I'm not going to reveal too much, you can make your own idea about the meaning of it. Who are they? Why does she look upwards? Why are they partly hidden?
