When I took a fitness course last year, the teacher showed us the following youtube clip. It shows how "playing steps" make people want to walk the stairs. A genious incentive to make people move more.
Another (wildly debated) way to make people want to move more and use the cycle path in Karlstad was to illustrate it. I like the concept, and in one way I really think it puts focus on the cycle path in the city. Surely many people have taken the path to check out the art.
On the other hand, people in Karlstad have been very irritated over spending a lot of money on art that wont last for long (the color will fade). I have heard other sorts of criticism too. Like, "it will be difficult for the children to learn how to ride the bike and to learn the traffic rules when the path is full of curved lines". Regarding the second critique: Come on! Don't make a hen of a feather. If the lines bother you that much, choose another part of the path when you are teaching your children to ride the bike. My opinion :)
