Two really fascinating works of art can be seen at Moderna Museet now. The huge painting "Enigma of William Tell" - around 20*35 meters (!), and the surrealistic video clip Un chien andalou from 1929 in which Dalí is one of the actors. It has a lot of impressive special effects, considering when it was made. The story is built up just like a dream, jumping from one scene to another without any logic. The clip is also available on youtube:
Photo borrowed from Moderna Museet. This painting makes a huge impact, both because of its size, background story, but also because it is very carefully painted. Sometimes, a painting looks really good on photo, but when you see it in reality it isn't that good. This to me is great art, it looks good both from far and up close. The edges and the transition from one color to another is amazing!
I've borrowed a little something about the painting from www.dali.com (you can find the rest of the text clicking on the link).
"We are of course first struck by the unabashedly phallic and impossibly exaggerated elongation of the figure’s right buttock, propped up by one of those commonly seen Dali crutches. That figure, in fact, is Lenin, and his menacing image is symbolic here of Dali’s estrangement from his own father. The elder Dali disapproved of Dali’s romantic entanglement with Gala – especially their living together unmarried for a time."
