I often admire other people's painting style. There are so many people with better technique than me, having extremely interesting ideas and motives which put you in awe. BUT, it is important to let it stay there; to appreciate what others do but not comparing myself with them, because they are not me and each and every one of us can contribute with something unique.
For example, I love Turner's work and admire his landscape paintings. Another landscape painter I've fallen for is Norwegian Johan Christian Dahl (1788-1857). I went to the National Museum in Oslo some years ago and that is where I saw his paintings. The National Museum has a temporary exhibition going on right now until the 4th of January 2015 called “Dahl and Friedrich. Romantic Landscapes”, where you can see more of his work.
