WIP - oil painting - In between

While in Barcelona I started on this painting. 

By coincidence I passed by a painting store and entered to buy some material, at the same time I asked if they knew about any place where I could paint during my vacation and they sent me to a studio I´ll tell you about later. 

I bought the best Belgian linnen canvas, five tubes of acrylic (white, yellow, red, blue and black) and then I printed a reference picture which I had taken before the trip. I know I´m old fashioned, but I still use squares when I sketch on the canvas. At this stage, the pencil lines look awful since I did've have a good eraser.

Next step was to cover the whole canvas with color.

After that we covered the whole thing with a very diluted green acrylic layer to make the colors blend in with each other and make it cohesive. I have never used this technique before and I got told it was used a lot back in the days.

Next thing was to detect and paint the lightest parts of the painting, and then the darkest parts of the painting.

I brought the canvas back with me home to Sweden in my suitcase and nailed it on a piece of plywood. Then I started on the oil.

I slightly changed the color of the mat since I think it looked a little to much like purple at first.

Then I got it framed. The reflections from the canvas don´t do the painting justice. 

The mat used to belong to the former chairman of the Art Association in my town  (may he rest in peace) and after he ceased away his family had an exhibition at this house and sold some of the paintings from his giant art collection, including this handwoven carpet. The painting includes so many different aspects for me; I'm playing with the perspective, it´s a reference for life/death/sleep and dreams.
