Have you ever seen a face in the sky or in the water? The phenomenon to see faces, humanizing things and giving them a "soul" is called physiognomization.

When I was working in Malta 2007 we stopped by this tree which you'll find next to the road when you drive from Attard to Medina. It resembles Jesus on the cross, doesn't it! The Maltese people are known to be even more Catholic than the Vatican, so you can imagine what they think of this tree.

The phenomenon to give a face and to humanize things is also well documented in books and in the art world, for example in fantasy and children's books and in surrealism.

Another English example. Here they call the phenomenon Simulacrum.
