I got a very quick reply from the company which has printed for me, and we are going to test print on another kind of smooth paper called Photo Rag. I must say that they offer an excellent service! The first test printing was done on a structured paper called German Etching. It is a gorgeous art paper but maybe not ideal for my paintings. Hope this other paper turns out well and that it doesn't get blurry, otherwise I have to figure out something else :) Above: German etching paper Yesterday I visited this guy. I am so happy to see that he hangs in a place where you can see him eveyday. The frame theyve chosen is really nice too. :) In Madrid, I had another frame for him, but it was too big to bring with me to Sweden in my suitcase. Imagine, this little fellow has also been to Ibiza and Formentera with me, since I went there before going back home. Today's photo challenge: nails. It's been years since I listened to this strippers' song. Their version of Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' is better than 'Closer' though (my opinion). :) Yesterday they published the article about the croquis session. It seems like the reporter is serious and I am so happy to see that he didnt choose a more" juicy" angle. Too bad you didnt get to see more pictures of the drawings. Annelie in the picture - her drawings are a m a z i n g! I know some talked to the reporter about which is the best, to draw a man or a woman? I think it is easier with a woman because I am one myself and know our body type in another way. Another person said it is easier because we have curves, men are more rectangular. It is also harder to draw a thin person due to the lack of curves. During the interview, the reporter asked me if croquis drawing is good for beginners. I am not going to lie and say it is easy because it aint - not even for those who have been drawing for a long time, BUT you will improve very quickly and hopefully you will think it is great fun to disappear into your own world for a while. About the Croquis Facebook-event, I'm going to keep it open in case we get another person to model for us :) My favorite pen for live drawing at the moment is the graphite stick. Why? Because it isn't as messy as charcoal and it doesn't break as easily as a pencil. I have a tendency to press the pencil too hard against the paper until the tip breaks. While drawing live I don't have the time to sharpen it. Imagine you have two minutes to draw something, then you need to sharpen your pen which takes you one minute =no time left! This is a 9B, which means it is very soft (soft/bland=B, hard=H). Then I can smudge it and get nice shadow effects very easily. I had planned to write more stuff but since I've been working in Örebro today and I'm going there tomorrow too I need to go to bed soon :) I've started on something today which I should have done much earlier - a color chart. I chose Azo red for the first chart. In the first column I've only mixed Azo red gradually with white, the second column with blue and white, the third color with yellow and white etc. This way, if I for example have a photo and want to use a special color in that photo in my painting, I can just compare it to my color chart. That way Illl know exactly how to mix that specific color. To complete the chart I have to mix Azo red with all the primary colors plus orange, green and violet. Maybe even earth tones and other colors which I use often. Then I need to make one separate chart for each of the colors mentioned above. Lots of work, but I'll do it peu en peu. I think it will be worth it. I've read a little about cadmium and its effect on health and the environment. It is a heavy metal and should be treated with precaution (in higher dosis it can cause cancer and even though the risk is small I don't want to take it). All famous paint brands have cadmium red and yellow because the color is so intense/clear, quite transparent and hard to replace with something that has the same qualities. I am definitely not going to buy another tube of cadmium. I already have two cadmium reds which I love...and I thought I had a cadmium yellow but it turned out is was an Azo yellow (good!). The problem is what to replace the reds with. I'm going to give Azo red a try because I already have it at home. If the name of the tube is cadmium red hue, it seems to be ok to buy it, because hue means they've mixed two colors together to make it look like cadmium red (that is how I've understood it anyways). The theme was jewelry. This ring was a graduation present from my grandfather, and I've worn it ever since. It has seen a lot, like the terrace of the soccer stadium Bernabeu (Real Madrid) where the photo is taken. Best place in Madrid during summer time, no doubt. Those who work there always treats us very well :) No but honestly, being away from family for years it is nice to have something that reminds me of them on a daily basis. I honestly forgot to take pictures from the place where we were today. First we drew for 1 hour, then coffee plus interviews for the local news paper. At least the reporter took some photos so if you are interested you will see more when they publish the article. Above: the first 2 min sketch. Legs got too short. It takes a while before you get into it :) Below: 10 min sketch. The model was lying on a sheet on a table and I was standing up while sketching. I was handling the timing. First we did 4*2 minutes, then 2*5 minutes, then 3*10 minutes I think, and then we finished with another 2 min drawing. The last 2 min sketch was really hard because we were used to having 10 min. I asked for permission from the model before uploading these pictures, just so you know. Ive choosen drawings from a more neutral angle, even though I am sure you wouldnt be able to figure out who it is by looking at them anyways. It is going to be interesting to read the article to see what angle the reporter has chosen. I will probably write my comments when it is published :) He interviewed he participants but also the model about his experience (I owe him a huge favor). At least everyone seemed to have had a great sketching experience and if we get someone to model for us we would definitelly organize something similar again. If interested just contact me :) |
