I've been painting a bit on my knife, but the weather was too good not to enjoy it so I took a little break to go the river, drink coffee and hang out with a friend. & yes, I am still equally pale (spf 30 thanks!). Suntanning is so 2004 ;)

Ok, last time in a while I'll bring Eloy up. Happy to see he's been commenting and that he appreciated my little shout-out for him :)
I haven't slept much at all (barely nothing) due to loud noises and a high volume in the building...Plus - the little sleep I got I suffered from nightmares! I had a lot of nightmares as a kid, but not as a grown-up. They started again when I moved here, and primarily they are about people getting into my apartment. I've almost never lived alone, guess that is one of the reasons why I dream like I do. Anyways, I've been walking around like a zombie today, and I haven't been able to do all the things I wanted too. I am going to make up for it tomorrow though, and my plan is to start on the second layer of a sharp knife! The picture above is from an oil on paper. Can't stop thinking it looks like crayon instead of oil, funny thing!
I've delivered a painting today, the one you can see below. I really hope the new owner is pleased with it and will enjoy it :) The color setting in the photos isn't a 100% correct and the painting is much less neon-like. I just wanted to show you the real size and how it looks like with a passepartout and a frame. Even though a painting might be small or look effortless, the thing about painting is that there is a lot of conceptual work behind it. I often strive to come up with a good and unique theme and to try different shapes, colors and sizes of the objects. If you have any requests about drawings/illustrations etc you've seen here in the blog, just e-mail me: info@elinerikson.com My main thing is of course oil painting, but as you know I do other things too. And I know that everyone doesn't like big oil paintings, but rather want something smaller (and less expensive). :)
Some common ways of hanging paintings is to place the center at 1,5m from the floor, or to follow an invisible horizontal line of all the upper or lower sides. I have a lot of paintings in different sizes at home. Also I like to change the hanging all the time which makes these kinds of hanging methods a little complicated (if I dont want to make new holes in the wall all the time). One solution is to buy or make a painting shelf! Then you are automatically going to get a perfect lower horizontal line. Isn't the wooden shelf above magical! It doesn't have any outher ledge though. Then you have to make sure the paintings are stable enough not to fall over the edge. You can mix paintings with books and smaller sculptures to make it more dynamic. I am going to look for a white really long ledge for myself.
Something I feel is very important is to support each other! We should inspire and learn from each other, show our appreciation and be happy for others when they do well. By the years Ive become confident enough to see that, instead of being jelous when others succeed I applaud them :) When it comes to art, I want to highlight and recommend artists at all levels - both in my own city like Magdalena Andersson and international renowned ones like Eloy Morales. I choose not to see others who paint as competition, instead we can push each other to make great art and hopefully make more people interested in art and maybe "lift" the whole cultural sector. How happy was I when I saw that one of my favorite artist has started an instagram account?! Check out hyperrealist painter Eloy Morales' fantastic artwork! Now, what if I recommend another artist and people rather want to see that person's art work? Well, not everyone will like what I do anyways. And hopefully, other artists will make a shout out for me sometimes. In that way people can choose something that lines up with their own personal preferences. Also, to give another example; the fact that Eva likes white clothes doesnt exclude that she likes clothes with stripes too. She can have many different pieces of clothing in her wardrobe and visit many different stores when she goes shopping. If Eva and all her friends get more interested in clothes in general, it will lift the whole clothing industry. The only thing I can do is to make sure to believe in what I am doing. In between two graduations we had the time to go see the Swedish Haute Couture designer Lars Wallin's exhibition at the art museum. Luckily I had my camera with me so I could snap some photos (without flash of course). The exhibition lasts until the end of august and they also have free lectures about fashion during summer. I really recommend going, it is so much more than a regular exhibition. The walls had been painted black and in combination with the music you felt like the dresses "made sense". Lars Wallin has dressed all the important Swedish celebrities and the Royal Family. The dresses you see below has been made out of the famous fabrics sold at Svenskt Tenn designed by Josef Frank. There were so many stunning pieces to look at. You could also read about who had been wearing what and to which event. This illustration by Stina Wirsén of a Wallin dress has been produced and sold as an ofical Swedish stamp for a period of time. In addition to the dresses, they had an atelier section to show the design process and how the dresses are made. I love when people are sharing their ways of working (that is why I do the same)! If I were to pick only one garment it would be this white winter wonderland jacket: Another favorite detail was this mask: There were so many haute couture garments to look at, plus a lot of fashion illustrations. If you have to possibility you should definitely go!
I got a warning from Instagram where they claimed I was violating their rules and that they've removed a photo of mine (they didn't say which one but I think it was this one). This is a SHADOW nothing more nothing less. A shadow lives its own life, the proportions aren't the same as those of a real person. I love live model drawing etc, but this isn't a nude picture, it is a silhouette in sepia! (My vacation pictures in bikini seem to be ok though.) What do you think, I've seen a lot of worse pictures on Instagram showing real flesh with a far more sexual undertone. For me, this is just art/ or a somewhat sensual picture illustrating light/dark, angles and contours.
I'm happy to say that three of my paintings are available as postcards! The paper used is Eco-labeled and is supposed to have " "unlimited shelf-life for perfect, long-lasting print results." For more info about shipping and prices abroad, email me on: info@elinerikson.com Nu finns tre av mina tavlor som vykort. :) #rawicecream The contrast between two extremes; the healthy and unhealthy. A phenomenon worth documenting. First sketch: I've realized I didn't take as many progress shots of this one, bummer! Below you can see the first layer of the background and the second layer of the apple and the carrot. If you compare the photo above with the photo below, the biggest change is in the hand. I've used my own hand as a "model", so you get a little bit of the artist in this picture as well. Got cravings for ice-cream?
